Six (6) 1870s SVs of SCENES in YOSEMITE VALLEY of CALIFORNIA on BROWN MOUNTS

Description: Six (6) stereoviews of scenes in the Yosemite Valley of California, circa 1870s. No photographer or publisher identified. All six views are on brown mounts with a gold border and have Yosemite Valley and California printed in the margins (in faint gold ink), with four being cabinet size mounts. The titles are also printed in a faint gold ink below the right photograph and include: Yosemite Falls, 2634 feet high; Mount Lyell, Tuolumne Valley; El Capitane; Yosemite Falls, 2634 feet high; Nevada Falls, 700 feet high; and, Yosemite Falls, 2634 feet high. All three Yosemite Falls views are different, though the titles are the same. The El Captane view shows a young man fishing. I have had stereoviews of other locations on this same type of brown mount and think the photographs may be from E. & H.T. Anthony & Co., perhaps pirated. The views are in good to very good condition overall with light wear and soiling. Note the light rubbing and bumping at the corners. The photographs generally exhibit good or better tonal range and show good or better detail. An attractive lot of Yosemite Valley CA stereoviews!
