The Galician peasants are performing the traditional Muyneira, the Dance of the Miller's Wife, to an accompaniment of a tambourine, drum, castanets and an instrument similar to the bagpipes. The direction of the pompons denotes their marital status. The rest of their dress is casual - sleeveless short waistcoats are worn over high-necked collars and breeches reach below the knee. 4 A woman wearing a denque, a piece of red material bordered with velvet that covers her shoulders and crosses over her chest. A cleverly arranged scarf serves to cover her head and a large apron with a wide bow at the back covers the skirt almost entirely. 7 A woman from Vigo, Pontevedra province. 8 and 11.
