The Cactus quartz specimens display an earlier growth of primary quartz prisms encapsulated during a secondary overgrowth by thousands of scintillating quartz crystals on the prism faces. Most of the time, the 'tips' of the primary quartz prisms are left uncovered, showing off the distinct two-phase growth habit. Due to this distinct growth habit that gives them a unique cactus-looking appearance, hence the name Cactus Quartz. Sometimes, they are referred to as Spirit Quartz by the local miners. Although the Amethystine Quartz is the most common for this locale. They can range in other colors, like milky white, to smoky quartz color.
