A bishop of the 4th century in Myra in what is now Turkey, he was known for his generosity and assistance to all those in dire need. He was also the Bishop of Bari, another town in Italy, and in which can be found some of his relics. St Nicholas could convince thieves to return their loot, which led him to be considered the patron saint of (reformed) thieves. He is also the patron of children especially sick children, prisoners, pawnbrokers, newlyweds, adopted children, perfumers, pharmacists, bakers, fisherman, judges, archers, brewers, barrel makers (coopers), boatmen, brides, grooms, dockworkers, lawsuits, merchants, parish clerks, pilgrims, poor people, sailors, schoolchildren, scholars, shoe shiners, travellers, and unmarried women. Busy saint, especially in December!The prayer cards which come with our rosaries, medals and pictures are home-made, created using a "greeting card" program on a computer and printed in full color on nice quality paper.
