This is the famous "Madonna Taler" of Bavaria, so named because the Virgin Mary appears on the back, holding the Baby Jesus. The front displays the bust of Karl Theodore, King of Bavaria, in the second year of his reign. The coin is CROWN SIZE, larger than a U.S. Silver Dollar! FYI, the word "Dollar" was derived from the word "Taler" which represented the largest standard coin denomination throughout German-speaking Europe including the German States, Austria, The Habsburg Empire, The Holy Roman Empire, Bohemia etc. Typical die striations (lines from die cracks) on back as the reverse was carried over from the pre-Theodore variety (also available), though Mary's face, crown, halo and other details remain quite clear.
