"The Lund Exhibition 1907: postcards and stamps" was the title of a lecture given by two very knowledgeable philatelists at the Lund Philatelic Association's meeting on 18 January 2005. The meeting participants were informed of the following: The first step on the road to the Lund Exhibition in 1907 had been taken at a meeting of the Factory and Crafts Association on December 8, 1905, when a proposal had been adopted and a board had been formed. On March 6, 1906, they had received the support of the city council. The exhibition area became 101,000 square meters in size, and an entertainment area was created. In the exhibition area, there were e.g. a 6,500 square meter industrial hall and two different sized towers. The highest was 45 meters high. In the lower tower there was a press center on the second floor and a telegraph, telephone and a post office on the first floor, where special exhibition stamps as well as parcel and racket labels were used. Lorentz Larsson had the exclusive right to photograph in the exhibition area and to print postcards. There are drawn postcards, which are made before the buildings were finished, and also unofficial postcards, which are taken at the entrance, and pirate postcards from inside the area. Towards the end of the exhibition, medals in gold and silver had been awarded to the exhibitors, which had resulted in some postcards with prints. This poster stamp is listed in "A General Illustrated Catalogue of Exhibition and Event Poster Stamps to 1914" compiled by Stewart Gardiner and Steve Greiczek, on page 281. The condition will be mixed, but none of the lots will be just accumulations of damaged or faulty stamps (unless specifically listed as such). A Note about Poster Stamps and Gum: Because many poster stamp collectors are primarily interested in the image on the stamp, the absence or presence of gum on the back is of little concern. If no mention of gum is made, then there may or may not be gum present. If you are only interested in poster stamps with original gum, please inquire before bidding.
