The Beastmaster Kapa - heavy, metal core, magnetic alignment

Description: This is a precise replica of the Kapa boomerang weapon as seen in the 1982 Marc Singer and Rip Torn movie The Beastmaster. This is my own design from the ground up, with a copper core that gives it the proper weight. It is finished in a very hard, temperature-resistant museum wax that gives it smooth operation and a proper tack. The original prop Kapa went to auction many years following the movie's release. My replica is based precisely off that screen-used original, capturing the exact thickness, size, shape and flair of the original. My model somewhat improves upon the one in the movie by incorporating neodymium magnets hidden inside the core of the object. These magnets serve to help hold the pieces into proper alignment when you open it. Otherwise, the alignment would never be quite right. I designed this to be compliant with Comic Con rules, which forbid even dull metal edged weapons. To meet this requirement, yet still not feel like a cheap lightweight toy, I had to use metal in the core. This gives it weight and balance. I shroud the copper with a hand-buffed museum-grade wax and thermoplastic. Both are very strong. The surface patina, a combination of bronze acrylic and verdigris for rust, has the right amount of tack and grip to the hand, so it's not easy to drop. By way of background, I designed my first prop for television more than 30 years ago. I design props today, in my older age, simply to pay homage to the great stories of the past. I believe The Beastmaster qualifies.
