Description: The fronts of the 1864Confederate Treasury notes were so similar to those of 1863 that new reverse plates were needed and ordered from England. Chemicograph plates were produced and shipped in January 1864, but none made it through the blockade, so the 1864Treasury notes had the blue backs we’re all familiar with. The 1864 plain designs unfortunately lost the counterfeit deterring value of the distinctive Chemicograph designs. But a few of the Chemicograph plates did somehow survive and were used to produce four printings starting circa 1879. This second edition book covers the Confederate Chemicograph backs in detail, including recently located individual prints. Please see the front cover for a listing of the new material.
