Description: "The Cowboy at Work: All About His Job and How He Does It" is a 289 page, 7.75"x10.25" hardcover written by Fay E. Ward and published in 1958 by Hastings House (New York). From the flap: "Never before has there been a book quite like this - complete in every detail of the working cowhand's life and job - by an old-timer who has lived through it all and who tells here, in the racy lingo of the open range, exactly how to do it. Clearly illustrated by the author's own drawings and diagrams - more than 500 of them - are specific instructions ranging from how to make a 12-plait rawhide knot and the proper set of your bootheels to wielding the branding iron." There are chapters on the evolution of the cowboy, types of range stock, ranch work, roundup work, roundup personnel, roundup equipment, cow camp chuck, the cowhand's bed, packs and packing, how a branding crew works, brands and marks, bronc busting, ropes and roping, saddles, cinches, spurs, boots and hats, jewelry, guns and equipment, and more. The book is in acceptable condition. The dust jacket is soiled and stained, with small tears and chips at the edges. The black cloth boards appear mottled/stained, have pushed-in corners. The interior is much nicer - there's a small pencil mark to the first page, and pages at the back are a bit wavy at the top.
