Description: Aleister Crowley (1875-1947) was an English occultist, ceremonial magician, prolific writer and mountaineer. His influence continues today. This is an extremely rare 1910 first edition of The Equinox, Vol. 1, No. IV., self-published by Crowley as the principal editor and contributor. Limited to 500 copies. Also called The Review of Scientific Illuminism, The Equinox was a periodical that served as the official organ of the A∴A∴, a magical order founded by Crowley. Published biannually between 1909-1913, it mainly featured articles about occultism and magick. Several issues also contained poetry, fiction, plays, artwork, and biographies. It has become the standard for English language esotericism. Articles in this limited edition include: Pan to ArtemisThe Daughter of the HorseleechThe DreamerThe GnomeThe Mantra-Yogi Any first edition volumes of The Equinox are extremely scarce, particularly in this condition. The stitched book block is sturdy, but since the linen cloth spine was not, many of the surviving copies have complete separation of the covers. However in this volume the front cover is still attached at the top, and could easily be reinforced with bookbinding materials to stabilize it. The rear cover is firmly attached. The text block is tight and the pages thick and easy to turn. PROCEEDS BENEFIT OUR LOCAL LIBRARY PROGRAMS - THANK YOU!
