The Flight of Dali. Original Curtis Hooper Signed Ltd Ed. Portrait

Description: An original signed limited edition lithograph by listed Modern British artist Curtis Hooper (1945-2000). It is a head and shoulder portrait of world famous Spanish artist Salvador Dali (1904-1989), depicted against the facade of the Dali Theatre Museum in his hometown of Figueres, Catalonia. Rising up into the sky is the sihouette of a figure on a winged horse, Dali riding away on Pegasus . Signed in full lower right - 'Curtis Hooper' and also has an inscription lower left reading 'Artist Proof / With affection for Penny & Tony'. This would have been one of only 50 artist's proofs. Beside this is an impressed circular stamp of an artist's easel with the title 'The Flight of Dali'. It is in excellent clean condition, the only point to note a 2cm mount mark down both side edges but this would be lost once mounted and framed again. A large print it measures 77 x 102cm. Comes with an original leaflet from Churchill Fine Arts of Princeton, New Jersey USA which pictures the print and gives this additional information 'Hooper visited Spain twice to study Dali's beloved Teatro Museo Dali, to meet Dali and to create this portrait. Hand signed and numbered, edition of 450 and 50 reserved artist's proofs. Mixed media 30" x 40". Retail $550.' Also another leaflet with a black and white picture of the artist and a biography. Very rare for this sort of original documentation to have been retained. Due to size I can only send rolled, £8 in the UK, £20 to mainland Europe and £45 to the USA. Curtis Hooper was born in Barnsley, UK and worked in the film industry, firstly as an actor and then as a cameraman, before giving this up to pursue his ambition of being a painter. Inspired by the works of the greats such as Rembrandt and Di Vinci he worked mostly on portraits, working in the USA and the UK and becoming extremely successful, so much so that he was commissioned to paint a portait of Queen Elizabeth (1986), worked with Sarah Churchill to create portraits of her father Winston Churchill from his best known photographs and also painted many well known movie stars and other well known figures such as Saudi King Faisal and Moshe Dayan.
