Description: The Mayor of Casterbridge, by Thomas Hardy, 1922. In good+ condition. A Harper's Modern Classic with an introduction by J.F.A. Pyre. "A Story of a Man of Character," Hardy wrote this at the height of his career. Green cover has dirt and marks as well as wear to spine ends and corners. Book is still solidly bound. Inside covers have dirt and marks, particularly the back cover. There is a name written on the inside cover page in upper right. The first few cover pages are a bit dirty. The very top of the pages are a bit wrinkled, as if water was spilled on it. There is also a red stain on the outside bottom that bleeds A very slight bit on to the bottom of some of the later pages ( see photos). None of this affects the text. There are some circled and underlined words at the beginning of the book, some wrinkled upper dog ears, and an occasional smudge or mark. But, overall, it is a solid readable book in good shape considering its age!
