This is a special shell made of durable nylon on the outside for mechanical protection and thinner capron on the inside, with several layers of thin metal foil between them to ensure minimal heat transmission. There is a thin polymer mesh between the foil layers to prevent their possible sticking, which could increase heat transfer between these layers and thus worsen thermal protection. Such structure makes it possible to protect the elements of spacesuit from heating when on the sunny side of the orbit, or to prevent large heat losses when in the Earth's shadow. This detail has Velcro strips on the inside for attaching to other elements of the spacesuit, as well as a blue stripe on the outside. Provenance. This multilayered spacesuit's sleeve thermal protection element has been taken from retired spacesuit tester who worked at the famous NPP "Zvezda" - the manufacturer of all Soviet and Russian spacesuits and life support systems for cosmonauts and military pilots. This item may had been used as part of ground tests of space equipment, which were carried out by NPP Zvezda. Possible use today. Besides a simple display in a museum, this item can be used as a visual aid for master classes or other educational programs for schoolchildren or students of engineering and technical courses, especially for watching and tactile sensation of its multilayer rustling foil structure.
