Description: This extremely RARE shaped exquisite Japanese lacquerware box with carved feet is a must-have for collectors of Asian art!! The intricate designs and handmade craftsmanship are a testament to the rich culture of Japan. See the vermilion interior - rich and beautiful. See the 4 curvy carved feet - I cannot find an example anywhere with that degree of detailing! The lid itself is an exquisite design that is sloped from a center point! The shape of the box is almost “jewel like” with points and angles! Unbelievable craftsmanship!!! In great condition with wear only noticeable to the bottom corners of a couple of feet - see my photos ( from on my desk ). Also, the tag inside gives some provenance- it was a gift from an Anglican Bishop in Tokyo to another Bishop, assuming in the USA. A royal quality gift indeed!! A tag on the bottom has the number “113” - I’m not sure if that’s an inventory marker or what but it will be left there of course. Measures : 9” W x 9” L x 3.5” H This box is stunning and would instantly level up any coffee table or side table, dresser or bookshelf display. Bought it at a high end a ton house in StL.
