The 60+ year old boxes are weathered as expected and several boxes we used new scotch tape to reinforce the carton to ensure that would close backup properly for safe shipping. Our Test Bench : TV7D/U Restored, Enhanced & Upgraded( Digital Meter) by Dan Nelson Calibrated( 07/24/2023). Calibration re-verified on 01/03/2024& 6/07/2024. Minimum good TV7 meter reads 40/40 per side which is 60-65% of factory average new. 'Bogey' = Average factory new 50/50 , where TV7 min good 40/40 All Tested : No Shorts, No Gas, No Leakage, No Apparent Micro-Phonics detected TEST RESULTS : Both tubes tested with matched plates at factory datasheet new levels when tested on a TV7D/U at 150VDC Plate Supply. Testing Notes: we just completed testing several large military surplus lots of tube type 5R4's (over 50+ tubes) all JAN's made by Chatham, Tung-Sol, RCA, Raytheon & GE. The Heavy Thoriated Black Plateson these Jan 5R4 types do need and will need some hours of In-Service time before reaching there maximum potential for Transconductance( Gm) reading. Our 5min warmup Test barely warmed up these JAN type 5R4s so the test results seem lower than a standard dual-wave rectifier such as 5U4G, 5Ar4/GZ34,5Y3GT, EZ80-81 6CA4,6X4 ect) which when factory new is a TV7 reading of 60/60 however All 5R4 Jan's will test on Average Factory new at 50/50 . The heavy thoriation on these 60+ year old tubes that have not been used nor tested need in-service time so the thorium can recoat the plates. We tested this theory by installing a 1961 Tung-Sol JAN CTL 5R4WGB that came from a factory sealed box so we know is was unused. We tested at 5-minute warm up on the TV7D/U in this test sample and it tested at 51.0/55.0, then we let the tube 'cook' in the tester for a couple hours and the retest was about 20% higher Gm reading and the tube then showed the plates balanced very closely..this is our experience with the JAN 5R4's (GYA,GYb, WGA & WGB's).
