Description: Listed is a brand new LG WP50NB40 slim external drive flashed to UHD Official BU40N firmware Version 1.03 making this a UHD Friendly UNLOCKED 4k capable external drive that you can use with any computer, desktop or laptop, running Windows, MacOS, and Linux, even if you don't have a 5.25" drive bay available. Flashing the drive to this particular firmware version has a few benefits... First, it ups the read speed to the maximum possible 6x. Second, the flashed firmware is an official LG UHD capable firmware, no third-party firmwares needed or used. This allows the drive to decrypt and read 4K Blu-Ray discs, including 3D Blu-Ray and BDXL/BDXL-R discs. Something these drives absolutely CANNOT do without being flashed. This drive needs Two (2) USB-A ports to provide enough power, USB 3.0 is preferred for max data speeds but not required for the drive to work. This listing comes with all of the original packaging and documentation, as well as the USB cable that comes with the drive normally. Having a UHD Friendly drive doesn't mean you can automatically play 4k discs, it just means your disc drive won't be the limiting factor in your system anymore. In addition to this drive, you will need software like MakeMKV (My preferred and recommended software), DVDFab, KMPlayer, Etc. Tested and Guaranteed to work! The Second photo proves the drive works and shows it working in MakeMKV, with its LibreDrive status, as well as showing it can read UHD discs, as standard Blu-Ray discs top out at 50GB and the John Wick disc inserted is over 60GB. The third photo is the firmware version of this drive, proving it is the BU40N v1.03 as promised. These drives are opened up once, connected to my computer using their included cables to ensure they work as well, flashed to the UHD friendly firmware, used to rip one disc to test and make sure they function as needed, and then placed back into the packaging.
