Length - 18 inches Made from Mahogany US Naval Aviator Owned Business The Fairchild C-26, also known as the "Metroliner," is a military aircraft used by the United States. It is based on the civilian Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner series, which includes the Model SA227-AC Metro III, Model SA227-BC Metro III and Model SA227-DC Metro 23, and Model SA227-AT Merlin IVC. The military versions of these models are designated as the C-26A, C-26B, and UC-26C, respectively. The C-26A is used by the Air Force and was also supplied to the Venezuelan Air Force, while the C-26B is used by the Army and the Air Force. The UC-26C is a second-hand Merlin IVC used by the Army. In addition to these versions, the C-26B has also been modified for use as the RC-26B, which is operated by the Air National Guard for various reconnaissance missions, including supporting the Department of Homeland Security in the War on Drugs and assisting the United States Coast Guard and Federal Emergency Management Agency in response to natural disasters. Some RC-26Bs were previously equipped with a belly pod containing a sensor turret and data recorder, but this has since been removed and a sensor turret has been added to the belly of the aircraft. The Navy also operates C-26D aircraft, modified for range support, at the Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands in Hawaii. In 2019, a contract was announced for Elbit Systems of America to provide an avionics upgrade to the Air National Guard's RC-26Bs.
