The Philippines, which comprise over 7,000 separate islands, were occupied by the Japanese after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. When the Japanese were making rapid gains in the effort to conquer numerous Pacific nations, only the Philippines held out for a protracted period, with the defensive forces a combination of American and Filipino soldiers. Japan ultimately gained control of this nation, and captured Allied troops suffered major cruelty at the hands of the conquering army. General Douglas MacArthur, who had command of the Pacific area to include the Philippines, vowed to return to re-claim this nation, which occurred later in the war. US Army Campaigns of World War II - Philippine Islands Click images to enlarge Description The US Army Center of Military History, in the 1990s, published a series of 42 booklets detailing "The US Army Campaigns of World War II". These booklets provided details on the planning and fighting in the various theaters of war. Each booklet addressed such topics as the (a) the strategic setting of the area, (b) military operations, and (c) an analysis of that campaign. The publications are well-illustrated with multiple color maps of the battlefields, routes of advance by the troops, and defensive lines. There are also black-and-white photographs. Each booklet measures appx 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches closed, 11 x 8 1/2 inches opened, and is printed on a high-quality semi-glossy paperstock. All are unused and in mint condition. This booklet contains some great military maps, to include the Japanese troop plan and disposition throughout the Pacific in November 1941, the US defensive line and Japanese invasion routes on Luzon Island in 1941-1942, the Pacific Theater in 1942, and Japanese routes of attack during the Battle for the Bataan Peninsula in 1942. This publication, which contains 24 pages, is in excellent, virtual mint, condition.
