Description: On October 1, 1995, the USPS issued a sheet of 20 32-cent stamps (Scott 3000) that honored the nation's greatest early comic strips, all of which were created before 1950. Some were artifacts of their time and place, but Li'l Abner, Popeye, and others contributed words and phrases to the English language. Blondie (begun in 1931) spawned a series of movies and two weekly TV series, while Little Orphan Annie and Li'l Abner were turned into popular Broadway musicals. Several of these historic strips (Blondie, Gasoline Alley, and Barney Google, among others) are still running in the nation's newspapers today! These covers are all unaddressed and cacheted by Artmaster. All are canceled with the First Day of Issue cancel from Boca Raton, FL on October 1, 1995 and would make a great gift for any FDC collector.
