Description: Beautifully detailed, historic, large B-29 Superfortress patch. Four inches across. This patch is an exact copy of an extremely rare B-29 "qualification" patch issued to B-29 aircrew members during and after WWII. An original patch would cost approximately $200 depending on condition. Besides being rare, the patch is unique in that it was the first patch designed for an individual aircraft versus being a squadron, group or numbered Air Force patch. Individual aircraft patches really didn't come into being until the Vietnam War era and are mostly fighter aircraft patches at that.You can definitely see the WWII "style" in the patch and there's significant symbology in the patch to include the prominent display of the "globe" highlighting the strategic, long range of the B-29 and the "V" for victory which is enmeshed in the large wings featured on the patch.The Boeing B-29 Superfortress is a four-engine propeller-driven heavy bomber designed by Boeing which was flown primarily by the United States during World War II and the Korean War.
