Vintage 1960's Electro Voice 634 / 641 dynamic High Z harp microphone w cable 5

Description: Hello and welcome to The House of chrome. You are looking at a great general purpose microphone made by Electro Voice during the 1960's & 70's with outstanding sound quality. The 634 model mic was intended as an affordable general broadcasting mic. It comes with an original (but shortened) 6 inch cable in which to operate. The 634 is basically the same as the 634A but this earlier model had the switch hole on the plastic portion of the body but the 634 was switchless so the hole was merely plugged at the factory. This mic never came with an on / off switch despite the hole. Pic # 2 is from an old E.V catalog showing this very model and it's characteristics. The 634, 638 and 641 model microphone utilized the exact same element but the 643 came with an elongated body via a center plastic extension and threaded insert so that you could attach this to a gooseneck or stand adapter. The 634 was a rugged mic and basically bullet proof. The 634A, 641 & 638's front grill has a classic design that resembled the air intake for many of the early American and Soviet fighter planes of that era. You'll notice that the microphone manufacturers were copying the styles of the American automobile, aircraft and space agencies for many years. It should be noted that mic is omni-directional as well picking up a little more background than a uni-directional mic. This mic has a very distinct sound. If you like something that's a bit old school the 634 in Hi Z will get the job done. It's void of bass and very "rockabilly" and the 634 would make a great harp mic as they are lite weight and easy to cup. These smaller mics have a very mid century vibe as well that stands out. This 634 has the standard female 5/8 X 27 threading in the rear of the mic where the cable exits. The mic was designed to be mounted on a gooseneck, stand or simply held by hand. I have this set up to be a handheld version though it could always at some point in time be mounted to a gooseneck or stand. Made right here in the U.S.A 60 + years ago. Thoroughly tested and cleaned this 634 has 100% signal output. Everything is tight. No loose parts. The mic is cosmetically very good with very lite cosmetic wear. The polished chrome looks very nice with an absolute minimum of wear. The plastic center plastic piece is very nice as well with just a few tiny scuff marks. The E.V label is completely legible. No dents or fractures on the body and I'd rate it a very conservative 7 + on a scale of 1 -10 though some would rate higher. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. The threads for the stand or gooseneck are excellent with zero wear though no gooseneck or stand is included. You'll notice that the 5 inch cable runs through the rear of the mic. The cable is soft, pliable and free of damage. It has the quality standard male Swithccraft XLR end connector so that you may attach any longer XLR cable of choice as an extension. Put a short cable on there if your audio equipment is close or use a very long cable if you're doing studio / stage work. If you need a very nice looking 634 that sounds as good as it looks then this might very well be for you. As always... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid.
