Description: ***********FOR PARTS/REPAIR - The manual wind movement runs only after the crown has been wound and then the watch is gently spun face down on a soft, flat surface in order to jump start the seconds hand. Once the seconds hand gets going the movement will keep accurate time for several seconds to several hours before stopping. When it stops gently shaking and or spinning the watch face down tends to get the seconds hand moving again. Given that the movement runs inconsistently, that the case back gasket has deteriorated and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is required.***********This vintage 1972 Bulova Caravelle Sea Hunter Devil Diver has a pristine black "T" signed dial and the original lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. Any imperfections seen are on the crystal, not the dial. The bezel rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension and the black insert presents in person as nearly blemish free. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "CARAVELLE | SHOCK RESISTANT | WATER-RESISTANT TO 666 FEET | STAINLESS STEEL | ANTI MAGNETIC" with "N2" stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped "CARAVELLE WATCH DIVISION" followed by "BULOVA WATCH CO,""SWISS" and "637." The crystal should be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Japan "II DP" and "N2" stamped manual wind movement runs only after the crown has been wound and then the watch is gently spun face down on a soft, flat surface in order to jump start the seconds hand. Once the seconds hand gets going the movement will keep accurate time for several seconds to several hours before stopping. When it stops gently shaking and or spinning the watch face down tends to get the seconds hand moving again. After recently winding the original, non screwdown "C" stamped crown 35 full revolutions the movement initially ran continuously, keeping accurate time, for nearly 4.5 hours. When it stopped I gave the watch several shakes with the seconds hand only wanting to move several seconds at a time. With some patience and giving additional shakes the seconds hand fired back up and again ran continuously (lying on a flat surface only otherwise the seconds hand doesn't want to run) for approximately 6 more hours. Some additional shakes and spinning face down only mustered an additional several seconds to 8 minutes before eking out another approximate 2 hours of continuous run time. The crown winds buttery smooth. Given that the movement runs inconsistently, that the case back gasket has deteriorated and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39.5 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. The lug to lug distance measures approximately 44 mm. A complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given. And please study the 24 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
