Description: Vintage Hess Brothers of Allentown PA 1940s ivory liquid satin ( insideit has a label that says skinner- skinner satin- see below) bridal wedding gown A beautiful dark ivory color ( called candlelight ivory) with a sheer Illusion yoke at the top of the bodice. The satin is the incredible eye catching liquid satin( label is Skinner,) of rayon. This dress is in very good condition to age; Dress is clean and without stains overall, only some stains as noted - there are a couple of tiny light marks at the bottom of the train, but they are so minimal. One very light stain on front near hem. The lace has one tiny mark in the middle back of the train I found when measuring it and the illusion yoke is mint. The illusion yoke is usually in the worst shape, so this is a rarity. It has a side underarm zipper. It has a cathedral length train, and a Chantilly lace overlay clear to the hem. The Chantilly lace is also is appliqued at the edges of the illusion yoke. The train is 84" long FROM THE WAIST in back.Otherwise excellent. MeasurementsThese are the exact measurements of this dress. In order to fit into this dress, you must measure a little LESS than the stated measurements. Bust 32Waist 24Hip OPENShoulders 15"Waistline to hemline 84" in back with trainSweep: Its so big I can't measure it!I think it's a perfect circle. This gown could easily be a perfect vintage wedding gown if you can get the tiny bit of small stains there are, mostly near the hem. Our measurements are the exact garment measurements, not your measurements. Leave room for fit! About Skinner Satin from wikipedia.William Skinner & Sons, generally sold under the names Skinner's Satin and Skinner Fabrics, was an American textile manufacturer specializing in silk products, specifically woven satins with mills in Holyoke, main sales offices in New York, and a series of nationwide satellite offices in Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Rochester, and St. Louis.[2] Founded in 1848 by William Skinner as a partnership between himself and his brother-in-law at that time, the company was first established at a long-term location in Haydenville in 1854, as the Unquomonk Silk Mills. Following the Mill River Flood of 1874, Skinner relocated both his home and company to new facilities in Holyoke, Massachusetts, where the company would maintain its mills for the remainder of its existence. By the 20th century, Skinner & Sons had become the largest manufacturer of satins in the world, becoming one of the first to directly market to consumers in 1903, and operated out of the largest silk mill under one roof by 1912.[3] During the 1920s and 1930s the brand was popularized with its usage in Hollywood, with silk gowns made from its satins adorned by such stars as Joan Crawford and Bette Davis on the silver screen. The company would also work extensively with the US Armed Forces during the Second World War, developing improved silk and other textile parachutes.[4] Following a period of decline due in part to an increasingly competitive world market, the Skinner family and other shareholders sold the company for an undisclosed amount on January 26, 1961 to Indian Head Mills, which continued to operate the mills for converting rayon and other synthetics until the closure of the plant as a textile mill in 1963.[5][6] Thanks for shopping at the Cats Pajamas!
