Vintage African Chokwe Tribal Mask: The Congo, Angola, Zambia, Zaire

Description: For sale is a vintage, handmade original ceremonial tribal mask of the Chokwe people. I am not an expert on African masks but I believe it to be found among the various ethnic groups of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Zambia, and/or Zaire. I've come across examples of this traditional style mask in all of those countries. The mask is hand-carved of aged wood and measures: 12" in height x 7 ½ " in diameter at its widest point. It is approximately 2 ¼ " deep at the forehead. The mask is in very good used condition with the customary wear that comes from actual use and there is no discernible damage as far as I can tell.
