Description: Offered here is a very special first edition, first printing of former United States President Harry S. Truman's memoir, entitled "TRUMAN SPEAKS". Published by Columbia University Press in 1960. Hardcover. 131 pp. THE BOOK IS BOLDLY INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY TRUMAN ON THE HALF-TITLE PAGE in black ink: "To Betty _____ with/kind regards/ 5/25/62 Harry Truman". (please note, true editions of Columbia Press books have NO statement of edition and No listings of additional printings, so this is a CORRECT first printing). Collection of lectures given by Truman at Columbia University from April 27-29, 1959; invited to speak to the students at Columbia, these are transcripts of what he told them about the Presidency, the Constitution, and demagoguery. The New York Times called the book "more poignant and human...than Truman's official memoirs" (thanks to Bauman Rare Books for the research). The book was evidently signed for the Betty ___ to whom it was inscribed and then given to her as a Christmas gift from her father as there is an ownership inscription on the front free endpaper, "To Betty, with love / From Daddy, Christmas, 1963".
