A major renovation including the addition of the WRECK Bar in 1958 was financed by the International Teamsters Union which came to the attention of Attorney General Robert Kennedy's Senate Rackets Committee. Union Boss Jimmy Hoffa revealed during the investigation that the Union has loaned the CASTAWAYS $1.3 Million for the renovation. The WRECK Bar which had a 5:00 AM Liquor License was the after-hours club of choice at the time and offered performances by top entertainers of the time including Ike & Tina Turner, The Monkees and, KC and the Sunshine Band. The area surrounding the CASTAWAYS eventually declined in popularity and the CASTAWAYS closed in 1982 and was demolished in 1985.
