Description: Fenton shows once again how they were able to take a style that seemed to be a fleeting fad and make it an iconic statement that becomes a classic. They incorporated their loved thumbprint pattern into this swung vase that became popular in the 1960s. The honey color of the glass is reminiscent of this era too with a touch of kitschy. This very tall vase sets upon a pedestal with a 3 1/4" diameter base that started from a mold design. The rest of the vase is painstakingly handblown while creating the thumbprint design and then swung to elongate it. As the thumbprints stretch upwards, they tighten to make subtle, vertical ribs. The rim is asymmetrical and twisted with a wavy finish on the ends. From the start of the opening of the vase to the upper most part is a span of 4 1/4". It is amazing to me how they were able to get two identical "waves" at the very top to make the piece appear complete. Like a summit of a mountain top.At 17 7/8" tall, this vase can literally stand alone or hold a couple of long stem flowers of your choosing. The vase itself would help to keep the stems upright longer. It is also great for an area on a table or chest that needs a variety of height. Any which way you prefer, this "retro" Fenton vase will always be in style.
