We search for insulators in perfect condition, but because they are approximately 100 years old, often they will sometimes have a small imperfection or 2. These items sat up high on a pole and were subjected to rain, heat, wind, electricity, birds and other elements for many decades. Your insulator might have a small scratch of a tiny ding but it will definitely not have any easily discernable chips, cracks or sharp edges and the staining process hides almost all imperfections.
