Description: LIBRARY BUREAU MAKERS Card Catalog Box ~ RARE ~ Really nice working file box. Check out the dove-tailed craftmanship. We've gone over it with Wax & Feed to give it a little bit of "pop." Has a few scuffs & scrapes as one can expect. Hinges are tight and work well. Inside mechanism works smoothly. Measurements are "roughly" 10.5 x 5.5" x 6.5". I believe this would have been for a card catalog. But, could certainly be used as a recipe box. I also called it, "RARE," as I searched and have not found one like this listed anywhere. Love that brass tag. And, speaking of which -- here's a fun factoid: The Library Bureau was founded by Melvil Dewey, the man better known for the Dewey Decimal Classification System. He published his system in 1876, the same year that he founded a company to sell library supplies. In 1879 this became the Readers and Writers Economy Company. The name "Library Bureau" was adopted in 1881. Happy to take more photos or answer questions. Thanks for looking.
