Description: I'm selling my Marantz 8b that I've kept stored and dry since I purchased it on eBay about15 years ago. This amp was brought up to 30 VAC for 24 hours and then slowly brought up to operating voltages and tested. As you can see by the photo of the Heathkit Variac display this amp draws 2.2 amps @ 120 VAC (as shown on the lower 3-ampere scale of the AC amperes meter). I put in afresh, matched set of Electro Harmonix Russian made EL-34 tubes. The smaller front-end tubes: (2) 6CG7s and (2) 6BH6s, are working fine and replacement tubes are readily available online. The Bias meter works perfectly, but I suggest resetting the bias to your home’s working voltage. I also recommend that you or a qualified technician check the amplifier and possibly upgrade the Power Supply. I noticed that the previous owner(s) have upgraded most of the axial capacitors to audiophile grade Jensen capacitors. The amplifier also has had the diodes replaced with Hexfred diodes. Overall, the amplifier has some scuffs and is missing some paint, and one ear of the speaker connection is broken off on the Left Speaker Common connection point. The Amplifier plays and sounds great with very little audible hum at full volume. I purchased the Bias Meter acorn caps and the cage on eBay to preserve the aesthetics of this wonderful old tube amplifier. The price is firm and non-negotiable. Address and pickup time to be provided to buyer after confirmation of sale. Payment will by eBay or cash on pickup. FREE SHIPPING to the lower 48 States only! No international sales.
