Slave gravesites were not allowed to have grave markers, so loved ones of the departed would place an ugly face jug on the grave to scare away evil spirits and allow the deceased soul to rise to heaven. There are no nicks, chips, or cracks. No scratches or gouges. No stains or discoloration. No glued repairs or restoration. The jug stands approximately 8 1/2" in height.
