Description: ABOUT: For your consideration is another piece from my personal collection of retro gaming systems, a classic c1998 NEC Socket 7 Pentium mini tower, the last of the uniquely-shaped NEC PCs, and the only one to sport a full ATX-compatible architecture & PSU. This unit has NO hard drive, but does have both a 3.5" floppy and a CD-ROM (and a free IDE bus), and has been tested to POST and BOOT from a DOS floppy and Windows CD. This is a clean project ready for enthusiast restoration. Please remember that, while I am a retro tech enthusiast, I am not an expert on the specifics of any given piece of retro technology. Some small components may be missing that I am not familiar with, so please ask any questions BEFORE bidding. This is a piece of 90's/Early 1990's technology that is incomplete, and bidding on it constitutes an interest to tinker with the understanding of nearly guaranteed random hardware issues and unexpected hurdles common to retro technology. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SPECS: • 1998 NEC READY 9856 w/ original specs decal!• Socket 7 Cyrix 300mhz CPU with heatsink and cooling fan (fan has bearing noise)• 72-pin SIMM RAM sockets, 64MB RAM (2x 32mb)• CD-ROM drive (tested and BIOS bootable)• 3.5" floppy (tested working) • ATI Mach64 PCI 3D VGA Card• Onboard sound• ISA SCSI card installed• PCI 10/100 ethernet card installed• DB9, parallel, PS/2 ports, 2x USB, game port• Original ATX PSU in working condition • A 1996 clickly rubber dome IBM PS/2 keyboard is included!• A period-correct Microsoft roller ball scroll wheel mouse is included! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITION: This PC was lightly dusted and cleaned- it retains a bit of dust here and there but is overall clean. There are two noticeable dents, one on the left side, one on the top... as well as some patina on the bottom front corner (see photos). The CPU fan works but has noticeable bearing noise. This unit did originally have a hard drive that was removed by the original owner, but retains its floppy drives. Both PC and keyboard have average levels of UV yellowing for pieces of this age. The PC chassis itself is clean with no heavy dust, no bugs or spiders, and no drop or abuse damage. Keyboard has some cosmetic grime that might call for detail cleaning. TESTING: This PC has been tested with a standard VGA 1024x768 LCD monitor and was able to power on, POST, enter the BIOS. The installed 3.5" floppy was tested to boot to a DOS disk, ALSO INCLUDED! The CD-ROM drive was tested to boot from an OEM Windows XP CD up to the point where the installer is unable to find a HD (CD not included). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TERMS: This is a used, barebones, vintage PC that is offered ASIS for enthusiast rebuild or collecting. It is not a modern computer and will require tinkering to find compatible components and get it fully functioning. I am offering this unit to another enthusiast with the understanding that the buyer is willing to undertake responsibility for the many repair and maintenance variables that come with antique computer components including such delicate tasks as floppy drive reconditioning and capacitor replacement. Due to the weight, this unit cannot ship to a PO Box, APO, or FPO.
