Description: This small Santa Clara polychrome redware bowl probably dates to the 1930s. The potter’s signature is not on the bottom though she did mark “Santa Clara Pue.” The size of the bowl is 4.75” in diameter, 2.25” in height, and with an opening of 3.75”. The pattern is a traditional kiva step on the left and branches on the right in pink, brown, grey, and white on the red slip base. There are three repeated panels. Condition wise the bowl is very good with no chips or Scranton the surface. There is some paint loss on two of the panels, perhaps due to rubbing or to natural flaking that comes with age. The inside is a matte finish that may have been scraped to remove the original finish. This does not detract from its appearance. The red finish of the outside is very bright and smooth. It is a very nice example of 1930s Santa Clara polychrome that has survived well over the past 90 years.
