Description: Classic American shift dress made by a home sewer. This type of dress was introduced in the late 50s when women were tired of the cinched waist. You could go to the fabric store in the morning, get your Simplicity pattern, your fabric, zipper, thread and seam binding, go home and cut it out, and assemble it by dinner time. This one is nicely made, though the maker didn't finish her seams. It has a 22" brass zipper down the back, which is sewn with a lapped over welt, rather that just down the middle of a center seam. It makes for a more finished look, and the snap closure is neatly mounted. I can't decide just what the pattern represents - pom poms? fantastic flowers? Whatever the design represents it is gorgeous and slightly Hawaiian.
