Each batch is mixed by hand and the colour wheel dial is updated for each batch so you know exactly the colour you will receive. Last batch update 16.05.2024 Vintage aged custom lume 1g per sale. Safe to handle - always has been and always will be. Order by dial number. The dial is painted with the exact pigment you will receive. I have two types of lacquer. The professional matte clear and now the Nitro based flat clear. Main differences are: Nitro will not darken the pigment as much. Nitro will yellow over time much like a 1960s white Fender guitar. Nitro may degrade over time causing cracks etc. Nitro may have a shortened working time. I prefer the look of the Nitro but I prefer the workability of the Pro Matte…. Low light photos are taken with a 3 second exposure and will therefore exaggerate the level of glow you will acquire. The darker the daytime colour the less it will glow. The difference in glow level and time between number 8 and stock pigment is negligible. Numbers 3 & 4 will probably not glow much at all. All pigments rely on being charged with UV light. When applying to black or dark coloured dials it is recommended that the lume plots are painted white and allowed to dry fully prior to applying for maximum glow. The intensity of the hands can be improved by sealing the undersides with a thin layer of opaque white acrylic or enamel paint once the lume has completely dried. Recommended usage: Mix 1:1 pigment to binder, mixing only what you can use in under 10 minutes. Apply immediately using an oiler or similar applicator. Allow to dry fully before handling. Drying time is usually within one hour. When dry there should be no gloss finish to the lume plots. Working and drying times will vary with higher / lower ambient temperature. For temperatures above 25/30 degrees Celsius I reduce my mix quantity to a 5 minute working time. This information is based on the binder I have listed and will differ from epoxy based resins and UV activated gels etc. For best “ dial “ results re-lume a full dial - do not try to patch an index or a numeral. For dot type indices dab a small amount of lume with the point of your applicator. Spread out to fill the area and repeat if necessary until you are happy with the coverage. For Trench Watch type numbers work from side to side / up and down. It is best to allow the vertical and horizontal channels to meet, then with an unloaded applicator drag the lume into the curves. Do not try to flow the lume around a curve - the liquid will try to find the shortest route and will spread out over the lines. This is often seen on the number 8 especially on WW1 watches. Unless that’s the look you’re going for. For best “ hand “ results fully re-lume all of the hands. Secure the hands held by the pipes with Rodico apply from the rear dragging the side of the applicator from top to bottom whilst maintaining light contact with both sides of the plot. Always remove the old luminous material to ensure the new lume will adhere to the surfaces. Vintage lume can be extremely toxic. Seek professional help if you are unsure how to safely remove it. Can easily be removed from enamel dials once fully dry by gently scratching it off with a sharpened orange wood stick. To remove from hands simply drop them into acetone for a few seconds.
