Description: This set by Vista Allegre includes tea or coffee flat cup & saucer, 10 1/8' Dinner plate, 9' Large Rim Soup Bowl, 9 3/4' Bread & Butter Plate. Founded in 1824, the Vista Alegre Porcelain Factory was the first industrial unit dedicated to producing porcelain in Portugal. The persistence of its founder, José Ferreira Pinto Basto, was instrumental to the launch and success of this daring enterprise. A landowner, audacious merchant and distinguished figure in Portuguese society at the time, José Ferreira Pinto Basto wisely adopted the liberal ideas of the 19th century, having become “the first example of free initiative” in Portugal. Nowadays, Vista Alegre is more than a mere industrial unit. It is also part of the Portuguese heritage, boasting buildings of undeniable architectural interest, and a repository of social and artistic memories essential to the building of a Portuguese identity. The "Magnolia" collection by that reflects the nobility and harmony of the nature that surrounds us. A symbol of dignity and beauty, the magnolia tree and bushes produce large and fragrant, white or coloured flowers. A unique and compelling decoration. The set was made in the 1980’s as a reproduction of a pattern from 1824. They came from a local estate sale and look like new or very gently used. In buying vintage, you will find minor scratches, scuffs, different colored, patina or other 'evidence' of the items previous use. I have teamed up with a few local businesses, friends and family (as of us have like recycling mindsets) with the hope to keep many of these products out of landfills for as long as possible.
