Description: Stereoview of a railroad painting by Denver artist James M. Bagley (1837 -1910). The painting depicts the Summit Station of the Denver & Rio Grande Railway at Vita Pass, Sangre de Cristo Mountains of south central Colorado. Stereoview was published by W.G. Chamberlain (Denver). There is a description on the back of the card regarding “Scenes on the Line of the Ft. Garland Extension D. & R.G. R.R.” The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad was a narrow gauge line. Bagley in addition to being an artist was also a wood engraver & cartoonist. His engraving and cartooning skills were often depicted in Denver newspapers. Because this is a stereoview of a two dimensional painting there is no stereo effect.
