Description: Description Vladimir Horowitz plays Rachmaninov 3 SACD Hybrid JAPANProduct introduction "Holovitz's definitive collection of Rachmaninoff recordings approved during his lifetime. Featuring Rachmaninoff's piano compositions, which held paramount importance in Horowitz's repertoire, this set compiles recordings made by Horowitz for RCA and Columbia between 1951 and 1981, all of which were released during his lifetime. The collection includes 15 performances out of the 22 pieces that comprised Holovitz's most significant repertoire, including two renditions of his trademark Piano Concerto No. 3 (1951 monaural and 1978 stereo live versions), as well as live recordings of Piano Sonata No. 2 (1968 and 1980). Holovitz met Rachmaninoff directly in January 1928 during his American debut in New York. At this time, Holovitz played Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the composer accompanying on the piano, an experience Holovitz vividly described as 'unforgettable' and 'his true debut.' Subsequently, Rachmaninoff became a spiritual father figure to Horowitz, even allowing him to create a hybrid version of the first and second drafts of Piano Sonata No. 2 when Holovitz first performed it in 1943. These recordings showcase a historical collection of performances that resonate with a profound connection to the compositions. The remastering, almost 30 years since the original masters, adds a new dimension to the recordings."
