Vtg Bybee Pottery Soup/Side Salad Bowl SANDY BROWN in COLOR Kentucky Signed BB

Description: Vintage Bybee Pottery Soup or Side Salad Bowl. This was completely handmade, glazed and fired by the artisans at Bybee Pottery. I don't know the technical Bybee Colors, so I will say this is a Sandy Brown Tone. If you are familiar with Bybee Pottery, then you know the characteristicsof this crudely handmade pottery is it's trademark. All the pieces typically have color variations, ripples, glaze drips, air bubbles, glaze skips and rubs along with an unglazed, rough bottom. Selling exactly as pictured. Bybee Pottery was the oldest pottery west of the Allegheny Mountains. Legend states the pottery was founded in Bybee Kentucky in1809 by Webster Cornelison, while sales records actually date to 1845. The business sold a wide variety of pottery pieces and encouraged customers to tour the old log building with it's many additions to watch the artisan potters hand forming, throwing, molding and glazing all the items. The pottery was able to mine all the clay they used within a short radius of their building and went through some lean years in the 1990's when the clay they were mining wasn't up to par and caused blow outs when the pieces were being fired in the kiln. The Bybee Pottery thrived and survived through six generations of the Cornelison family and as the family dwindled, production and sales dwindled also.
