Description: ~~~~~~~~~~...~~~~~~~~~~..~~~~~~~~~~~~~...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~...~~~~~~~~This 7.5 inch doll is from my late mother's collection. I don't collect these type of dolls and I'm not really familiar with this Era, therefore, I will describe the doll below. Also,my Mom had a reference book called “Small Dolls:40's,50's” by Carol J. Stover, and I was able to find some of her dolls in that book. Therefore, I will reference pages from the Stover book, if I find the doll in the book. Please message if you have any questions. ....~~~~~...~~~~~~~~~...~~~~~~~~...~~~~~ This is a vintage early (PL: painted lash) 7.5 inch NINETTE doll issued by Fortune Toys Inc. She was issued around 1955. Hard Plastic, not vinyl. Unmarked: Not marked on her head anywhere. ~~~~...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~..~~~~~~~~ EYES= Very pretty clear blue eyes. She has the non-molded painted eyelashes type of EYES, of earlier tiny dolls, with painted lashes on top ,and thin eyebrows. However Note: Eyes are frozen open & I did not want to force them shut for fear of breaking them.~~~~~~~..~~~~~~~~~..~~~~~~~~~~~~~..~~~~~~~~~~~~ This NINETTE is in the Stover book on page 92-93. As seen in the book, this listed doll has the same face as on P. 92, and the outfit is like the ones Fortune issued. Plus the snap is like them too.And Fortune used lots of shiny TAFFETA for their dolls' dresses. (See my photo of the book). ~~~~~.~~~~~~.~~~~~~.~~~~~.~~~~~ Note: I have listed this doll under COSMOPOLITAN DOLL Company since according to the Stover book, the Fortune Company probably bought “blanks” from Cosmopolitan. Which is why this early Ninette's face looks so much like the early Ginger dolls (and most collectors have never heard of FORTUNE DOLL Company unless they have the Stover book). .....~~~~~~.......~~~~~.....~~~~~~~~~.....~~~~~~ This hard plastic Ninette has lovely vivid facial coloring w/ rosey cheeks. NO STRANGE odors, and also she comes from a non-smoking home. .....~~~~~~~~....~~~~~~~~~~....~~~~~~~~ I believe this Ninette is supposed to be a “straight leg walker” (SLW). But currently, she does not walk any more, and I did not want to force the legs back and forth to check, for fear of breaking the inner mechanism. . Ninette is not marked anywhere that I could find, unless the marking is very faint. According to the Stover book, the Ninettes were not marked but were supposed to be “high quality dolls”. . Her light brown (mohair? or soft Saran?) hair is very long. And very full. The fibers look delicate, like the early Saran wigs had. ....~~~~~~~~...~~~~~~~~~~~..~~~~~~~~~......~~~~~OUTFIT= Ninette is wearing an un-tagged vintage lavender SHINY TAFFETA dress, similar to dresses seen on page 92 (Stover bk). The snap is the round "gold-toned style" that Cosmopolitan and Fortune used. Note: The snap is starting to detach a bit (see close-up).Good condition dress, not perfect, but nice. See all photos. Dress is Clean. No weird odors. The white rick-rack is like the trim used by Fortune. Trim's not perfect but acceptable (see photos). The tulle slip looks handmade & it is sewn-on the doll. If you want to take the slip off, you'll need to take out the stitches. Includes vintage cotton panties, in good condition. Also she has on lavender socks. Shoes look replacement (NOT by FORTUNE)..THE HAT= Ninette has on a black felt (scalloped) hat with a lavender Ostrich feather and some millinery flowers on the side. Looks vintage. Plus the rack on the bottom of the dress is white and black (like the hat).Note=The hat seems sewn-on the doll's wig (possibly), or it's on her head very tightly. I could not get the hat off & did not want to ruin her wig by forcing it off. . Ninette comes with NO DOLL BOX and NO STAND. . SHIPPING= This doll will be shipped in a sturdy Uline box to ensure safe delivery, via USPS Ground Advantage. . Thank You for stopping by. LOT= P-10 bk-4
