Both "types" are the same species! The submerged stem has slender shaped leave and the emerged stem has thicker, round shaped leaves. If you are planning to keep the plant fully fully submerged, I would recommend the submerged stems because they can grow faster in water. The emersed stems will grow very slowly in the first two weeks if being kept fully submerged, but after that, they will start to grow faster. - We do routine maintenance trimming weekly. What you need to keep the plants thrive- Adequate lighting system, the light that usually comes with new tank is not suitable for growing live plants.- Adequate substrate (except for floating plants), substrate particle size should not be more than 1/4” in diameter.
