Description: The first production L-1049 Constellation made its maiden flight on July 14, 1951. The Constellation was Lockheed's response to the successful Douglas DC-6. The aircraft was also produced for both the United States Navy as the WV/R7V and the United States Air Force as the C-121, for transport, electronics, and airborne early warning and control aircraft. A total of 856 Constellations of various models were manufactured. There are, unfortunately, only a few airworthy Constellations left today. Air Ceylon Airlines was the former flag carrier of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). The airline was founded in 1947. It discontinued flights to Europe in early 1978 and finally ceased all local services on 31 August 1979. It was then replaced by Air Lanka and then rebranded to Sri Lankan Airlines later. Air Ceylon had the Constellations in service from 1956 to 1960. This Air Ceylon L-1049-E Constellation with registration number 4R-ACH was originally delivered to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in May of 1954. It flew with KLM until November of 1958 when it was purchased by Air Ceylon Airlines. It ended its service life once again with KLM Airlines in May of 1962 where it continued to provide service until it was ultimately scrapped (how very sad). This beautiful1:200 scale diecast reproduction of this famous aircraft is a highly detailed, out of production and difficult model to find model. It is completely assembled and comes with detailed landing gear, wingtip fuel tanks, rotating propellers and beautiful razor sharp Air Ceylon graphics of that era.
