Description: Where the Sidewalk Ends; the poems and drawings of Shel SilversteinEarly (not 1st) edition published in 1974. Harper & Row publisher, NOT Harper CollinsDust jacket flap has the 1174 This is a much sought after edition that still contains the poem "The Gypsies are Coming" (page 50) which was since determined to be an offensive term. Silverstein did not agree but Harper publishers changed the word 'Gypsies' to 'Googies' on subsequent editions. To add to the conundrum regarding this particular edition is that it's missing the price. The first edition was published with the price of 7.95 on the flap, later editions in 1974 were published with 8.95 on the flap and some with 9.95. This has no price on the flap. Possible book club edition? I really don't know, nothing else indicates that. Dust jacket has some flaws, a torn area on the bottom edge on the spine area, some rough crinkled areas. The book is in very good condition, there is an owner name on the inside cover which is hidden under the dust jacket flap. Binding, end papers, spine are solid. No separation at all. The back end paper (last page inside cover) is creased No marks or tears to the pages. No corner bumps or spine pulls. Check out photos for visuals of any issues and to appreciate the over all quality. From non smoking home
