TAFT - PRESIDENTIAL PROCLAMATION SIGNED 11/07/1912 - HFSID 347960 WILLIAM H. TAFT A proclamation signed by the U.S. President and framed with a plaque and printed image! Presidential Proclamation Signed: “Wm H. Taft” in ink. One page. 8x13½ proclamation from the President of the United States. In Part: “The year now drawing to a close has been notably favorable to our fortunate land. At peace within and without; free from the perturbations and calamities that have afflicted other peoples”. William Howard Taft (1857-1930) was Governor of the Philippines (1901-1904), Secretary of War (1904-1909), 27th of the United States (1909-1913), and Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court (1921-1930). His bruising convention battle with former ally and patron Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 split the Republican Party, allowing the election of Democrat Woodrow Wilson. Taft as President was caught in the middle between progressives and conservatives and constrained by a more limited view of Presidential powers than Teddy Roosevelt possessed. In the years between his Presidency and his appointment as Chief Justice, Taft taught at Yale Law School. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 30x21½.
