Description: These are vintage, authentic, RWP, Wilton ARMETALE®, polished, 7" x 1-1/2" bowls in the "Plow Tavern" pattern, now discontinued. Marks on the bottom of each piece verify the authenticity. (NOTE: I'm also offering 3 sizes of plates and other serve ware in this series in separate listings.) Wilton ARMETALE®'s products are produced using an ancient process called sand molding, whereby a skilled craftsman fills an impression formed in sand with molten metal. When cast, this metal alloy can be worked to acquire the look of pewter or be highly polished to resemble silver. The intent is to impart the warmth and patina of fine pewter while offering practicality for daily use. Each item is individually cast and meticulously hand-finished, so, no two pieces are exactly alike. These functional yet beautiful pieces are also valued for their ability to retain temperatures for heating, chilling, and serving. The alloy (a closely-guarded family secret) is made of 10 different metals, primarily aluminum. It was created to meet FDA food service standards. The "Plough Tavern" series was designed as a Colonial American reproduction of dinnerware, serveware and hollowware, an ode to the Golden Plough Tavern of York PA, which was built in the mid-1700s. It was the original home of German Architect Martin Eichelbereger which later served the growing community of German and other immigrants who came to Colonial America. Care and Use. ARMETALE® can be used on the table or in the oven. After use they should be washed soon after to prevent discoloration which may occur if fatty acids, vinegar, salad dressing, or the like remain on the surface too long. Wash by hand with mild detergent.
