Description: On offer from our personal collection is this iconic WMF Art Nouveau Silver-plate Fairy with Dove visiting card tray. Made by "WMF", "Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik" in Germany circa 1900. The word iconic is used rather casually at times but this truly is such an item. As you can see it is not only illustrated in the 1906 Catalogue. Page 167 Model Numbers 246 (see photos) it is also used as the cover illustration of this famous reproduction of the catalog. You may see similar looking items at a lower price. Be aware that there are some reproductions of this piece in circulation and that is why. You will see these pieces do not have the WMF running ostrich or other documented WMF logo (all WMF pieces are marked). This piece does not have the WMF mark but what marks it as genuine is the fact it is marked A.K. & Cie on the bottom (see photo). "AK & Cie" (Albert Kohler and Sons) was founded by Albert Kohler in Vienna around 1880. The company was taken over by WMF in 1900. WMF products under the "AK & Cie" brand continued to be produced in Austria until 1914. The fairy would have been produced during this time. Dimensions: 12” across widest part of the tray. Though there is some loss of plating around the body of the fairy the majority of the plating is in good condition and takes a bright polish. For an item over 100 years old it is is very good condition. Stateside postage is $65 this includes insurance) We use UPS tracking, and you will sign for Package.
