Description: For offer, a German manufactured, circa 1900 Art Nouveau or 'Jugendstil' period, WMF silver plated spirit kettle, stand & burner. The kettle has an Ebony wood handle, with Art Nouveau stylised supports for the handle and lid finial, the stand also has such styling to the frame sides, the burner is a little plain, and unfortunately has the internal wick/burner mechanism absent, but still displays extremely well. 'WMF' has a long history going back to 1853, with 1880 seeing the merger between Straub & Sohn and "Ritter & Co.", Esslingen, Germany, to form a public limited company under the name of 'Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik'. At the time of the merger, Ritter & Co.'s Esslingen factory was already using the electroplating method of silver plating and had the more modern production facilities at its disposal, Straub's company, on the other hand, was the more profitable of the two. The condition is superb, with a few minor dings, and a patch of over-polishing to the lid, also over-polished are the makers mark to the underside of the kettle, though still legible when angled to the light, as I can read "WMF", "EP" and "NS", all within segregated rectangles.
