Description: Original WW1 British TRENCH MAP entitled "BAILLEUL", an important 'Rail Head' town which, at the time of printing, had been in German hands for over a year. The survey was produced on the 21st August 1918, just a week before the town fell under Allied control once again on the 30th August.Updated German defences on this edition include several new barbed wire entanglements around the town following the Allied capture of neighbouring METEREN the previous month. The entire map is filled with rail lines and multiple sidings, and the main pre-War network linked MESSINES, HAZEBROUCK and ARMENTIERES. Sheet 28 SW 3.Scale 1:10,000 as mostly used by infantry officers.Trench corrections are to 21st August 1918.Produced on unbacked paper and apparently retained officially, hence the row of filing holes in the left margin. As such, it has never been folded and remains in excellent condition.
