Description: Original WW2 era model L77 Commando Stiletto fighting knife manufactured by Western Cutlery in Boulder, CO; original scabbard included - great overall condition, considering the age. This exact type is illustrated on p 236 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael Silvey. The knife is about 11-1/4”/28.4 cm overall; fullered blade is about 6-7/8″/17.5 cm; it is razor-sharp; the tip is intact; no edge nicks on the blade. Stacked leather/colored fiber washers handle; steel guard and aluminum pommel. The pommel is tight; the guard has a tiny bit of a play. A few light contact marks on the pommel, nothing major. Original leather scabbard is included; it is obviously used, but it's in better than average condition for the type; the leather is soft and supple still. Fullered blade has been expertly re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. No edge nicks on the blade; light pitting is noted for accuracy. Stacked leather and colored fiber washers handle; steel guard and aluminum pommel. The handle is solid, the pommel is tight; the guard has a tiny bit of a play. A few light contact marks on the pommel, nothing too bad. This type is scarce this nice as most of these fighter had seen a lot of abuse in the field. This exact type is illustrated on page 236 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see book’s page scan attached). Original leather scabbard is included; it is obviously used, but it's in better than average condition for the type; the leather is soft and supple still. Overall, this original WW2 era Western L77 Commando is in 100% serviceable condition still; with proper care this WW2 fighting stiletto will last you another 75 years ;) This specimen is in great shape overall, considering the age; you will not be disappointed!
