Description: WWII GERMAN K-98 BAYONET ~ MISMATCHED WITH LEATHER FROG ~ESTATE ITEM To my bidders: For years I have done business on eBay using the name: gpstorageco*. The items I will be selling from this point on are being sold from my estate and from the estates of friends and relatives. Due to eBay rules there will be No International Shipping for this item. This WWII German K-98 Bayonet belonged to a friend of mine who recently passed away. He set aside vintage military items over the years. This blade was displayed on a combat mannequin. This WWII German bayonet is a mismatched set as purchased from a WWII US Vet years ago (see photos). The bayonet's fullered blade retains most of it's dark blued finish with some thinning towards the tip (see photos). The blade appears never sharpened, doesn't have a sharp edge now and is marked at ricasso to one side with the serial number (5536e) & the other side with the coded maker - 42asw (see photos). The German coded manufacturer asw is E & F Horster - Solingen. The crossguard, pommel and backstrap have finish remaining but there is thinning overall to the crossguard sides (see photos). Dark red Bakelite grips are clean/tight and secured with screws (see photos). The pommel edge has the appropriate waffenamts and the spring loaded release button functions properly (see photos). The bayonet scabbard is solid overall with one shallow ding to the reverse near the base (see photos). It has a substantial portion of the original blued finish with some light thinning overall (see photos). The scabbard is marked with the maker/date (P.Weyersberg 1940), serial number (9692b and the small screw is present to the side near the throat (see photos). The period leather frog shows use but is solid/intact overall and is the style without the small retaining strap (see photos). It is maker marked & dated to the reverse but hard to make out (see photos). The stitching remains solid/intact and the rivets are in place. This WWII German K-98 bayonet is very attractive/complete overall and shows only light average use. While the numbers on the components don't match they have clearly been together since WWII. This rig would be excellent for display of for use by a re-enactor. Guaranteed to be an original period piece as described. Priced accordingly for the beginning collector.
